Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has said that security operatives are getting close to the location where the kidnapped Kebbi students are being held.

DAILY POST reported the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

The girls were kidnapped in the early hours of Monday, 17 November, when gunmen attacked the school, killing the vice principal, Malami Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and taking the students to an unknown location.

Following the incident, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed Matawalle to relocate to Kebbi State to coordinate military and security efforts aimed at rescuing the girls.

Speaking on Friday after his arrival, Matawalle said, “The intelligence we have at hand shows that we are almost close to those children.”

He assured the governor that the federal government was ready and committed to working with the state government to ensure the release of the students.

The former Zamfara State Governor added that the girls would be rescued and reunited with their families in no time.
