Jonathan Chalkias, one of the agents for Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres, has revealed that Manchester United agreed a transfer fee with Sporting for the striker.
According to Chalkias, their offer was more than the £63 million the Gunners eventually agreed.
Arsenal’s deal for the 27-year-old is worth €63.5m upfrontand €10m in add-ons.
Speaking on the Studio Allsvenskan podcast, Chalkias, insisted Gyokeres was intent on moving to the Emirates throughout the summer.
While revealing that there was a huge offer from Saudi Arabia, he said: “But there was also the problem with Sporting that they had finalised the deal with United behind our backs.
“They [Sporting] had agreed because United paid a much higher transfer fee, but they didn’t get any attention.
“Every time they called it was, ‘no, no, no’, because he wanted to go to Arsenal.”
